Check if your skin care products have these 5 ingredients?

Its very clear most people especially women rather refer to packaging when choosing a good skin care product. Most people do not take the time to go through the ingredients that are actually used in its production, which normally ought to be the first thing to be done. Well ladies "not all that glitters is gold". Most of these well packaged skin care products you find on those shelves are loaded with toxic chemicals that are very harmful for the health of your skin. Watch out for the ingredients below when choosing your skin care products.
  1. Hydroquinone; This chemical is used by many black women to lighten dark patches of the skin. This  chemical works by blocking the process in the skin that leads to skin discolouration. The side effects of this chemical include mild burning, stinging, redness and dryness of the skin. So before using hydroquinone, tell your doctor or pharmacist for medical follow up, avoid usage during pregnancy, breast feeding, and prolonged sun exposure. Ladies, Hydroquinone is the first ingredient to watch out for!
  2. Parabens: These are the most popularly used  preservatives in skin care products. Primarily, they stop fungus and other microbes from growing in your body lotions and make up especially in moist environments. Although no clear evidence, some scientists strongly hold that its application of this chemical can cause breast cancer, increased skin aging, DNA damage and skin irritation.
  3. Fragrance; Whether the fragrance in the product is natural or synthetic, it is almost always a problem for your skin. Well, you may be thinking that fragrance should not be a problem because your skin doesn't present any symptoms of irritation. Sorry to inform you that the surface often keeps the fact that it is irritated a secret. Below the surface, irritating ingredients can cause collagen to breakdown, get in the way of skin's ability to fight environmental damage and hamper your skin's ability to heal.
  4. Mineral oil; Often called liquid petroleum or paraffin oil. These are one of the colourless and odourless, light mixtures of high alkanes made from petroleum. Mineral oil is considered "cosmedegenic". This simply means it can clog your pores and increase the risk of acne, black heads and may also contribute to skin contamination.  While moisturizers include important nutrients that support the fragile skin, skin mineral oils provide no nutrients to your body. They just seal off your skin preventing it from breathing.
  5. Mercury; This is a common ingredient found in skin lightening soaps, lotions, and eye makeup. Some skin lightening ingredients work extremely well in the short run, but are dangerous in the long run. Mercury is one of them. Mercury can cause gastrointestinal problems and kidney damage. It can also build up in the brain and affect the central nervous system, producing symptoms that include tremors, memory loss and weakness.
Well, in as much as these ingredients are considered the most toxic, they are not the only. Others may include lead, talc, coal tar, oxybenzone and many others. So please make sure you do well to check out for these ingredients in your skin care products.
